Splicing at data center speed.
High-volume ribbon splicing, testing, and certification for the facilities helping Canada build data sovereignty.
Overview
Splicing volume, without compromising precision.
AI and cloud infrastructure depend on fibre connectivity between servers, storage systems, and network switches, in volumes beyond a typical outside plant deployment. 3K Solutions specializes in high-density fibre work, splicing at the speed data center timelines require without compromising the testing these facilities depend on.
High-Volume Ribbon Splicing
Data centers connect an extraordinary number of individual fibres — often thousands within a single facility — which makes installation speed a real constraint on project timelines. Ribbon fibre bundles multiple individual fibres into a flat strip, and mass fusion splicing joins an entire ribbon, typically 12 or 16 fibres, in a single operation instead of splicing each fibre one at a time.
The result is a fraction of the labour for the same fibre count, without a change in splice quality.
Single Fibre Fusion Splicing
Ribbon isn't the right fit for every connection. Smaller-count cables, cross-connects between specific equipment, and certain specialty runs still call for individual fibres to be spliced one at a time — melting and fusing the glass ends together to form a permanent, low-loss joint.
Testing & Verification
Every fibre connection gets verified before it goes into service — even a small defect in a splice or connector can degrade signal quality across the network.
OTDR & Insertion Loss Testing
OTDR testing — sends a light pulse down the fibre and reads the reflections that return, pinpointing the location and severity of any fault along its length.
Insertion loss / power meter testing — measures how much signal strength a connection loses end to end.
Fibre Certification & Commissioning
Certification compiles test results for a completed installation and confirms they meet the performance standard the facility requires. Commissioning brings the completed network into active service — including final verification and handover to the operations team.
Network Documentation & Turn-Up
A fibre network is only as useful as its records. As-built documentation shows exactly what was installed and where, and labelling ties physical connections back to the network design — details the facility team relies on to troubleshoot or expand the network long after installation wraps.
Turn-up is the final step of bringing a new network into production use. It follows certification and marks the point where the completed installation passes from the construction team to the operations team.
